Chinova Resources’ Osborne & Starra Copper-Gold Mines, Qld

Mine Development, Mine Production, Shotcreting

The Osborne-Starra copper-gold mining complex is among the top 20 largest metalliferous underground mines in Australia by tonnes of ore mined. It was also one of the top three largest mining operations in the country to contract out all or the majority of their mining functions. Production concluded in 2015 as the mine reached end of life.

PYBAR was awarded the development mining contract at the Osborne mine in early 2011. In December 2012, we were also awarded the production mining works at Osborne, as well as the development and production mining works at Starra, where PYBAR replaced the incumbent contractor.

The Starra mine concluded production mining activities in August 2014 on exhaustion of the economic reserve. In 2015, the Osborne mine also exhausted its ore reserve.

PYBAR was responsible for all mining activities at the Osborne-Starra operation comprising up to 150,000 tonnes per month of ore production, as well as up to 400 metres per month of development.

During our time at Osborne-Starra, PYBAR developed in excess of 16,000m, hauled more than 8 million tonnes per kilometre of production ore and completed more than 430,000m of production drilling and blasting.
